As always, the St Mark’s Academic Institue, Low Anterior Resection Syndrome (LARS) Virtual Masterclass held on the 18th May was well organised with up-to-date material that can be adopted in clinical practice.
The annual masterclass aims to equip healthcare professionals with a comprehensive understanding of LARS, including its diagnosis and treatment options, both medical and surgical. Furthermore, the course emphasised the importance of providing enhanced support and care for individuals living with LARS through engaging lectures, interactive discussions and practical case studies.
Ellie Bradshaw’s (Colorectal Nurse Specialist at Princess Grace Hospital) ‘Assessment of LARS’ and ‘Behavioural treatment for LARS’ offered a vast amount of clinical advice that was well received by the delegates.
With healthcare professionals acquiring an understanding and advanced knowledge from these presentations can only mean the treatment of more patients and therefore, successful outcomes.
Mollie, one of our Key Account Managers, and I were invited to discuss ‘Rectal Irrigation as a treatment for LARS’. We discussed the theory behind low and high-volume irrigation, with case studies to verify where rectal irrigation sits on the treatment pathway and live demonstrations of how to use the products.
