Engaging Children in Bowel Irrigation Through Play: Introducing Qufora Bowel Buddies

A consistent bowel irrigation routine begins with your guidance. Families leave equipped not only with new products but with a clearer vision of how bowel irrigation can enhance their child’s quality of life. It’s during this time that establishing healthy habits is critical. To support long-term engagement, we’ve developed the Qufora Bowel Buddies Kidz mobile game, designed to motivate children and help parents maintain their child’s bowel irrigation routine in a fun and engaging way.

The game was developed in partnership with children who irrigate, aged 7–12 years old. Parents and healthcare professionals also participated in the design process, but the children’s perspective drove the development. The result is a playful, relatable, and motivational tool aimed at helping children understand they aren’t alone in managing their bowel health.

In the game, the child takes on the role of a hero guiding a troop of friendly water blobs—the Bowel Buddies—on a mission to help free trapped poopies. The water blobs, launched by squeezing a MiniGo or MiniGo Flex device, work hard to flush poop from the bowel into the toilet. This action symbolises the actual bowel irrigation process, turning the experience into an approachable and engaging adventure.

By externalising the procedure through fun game mechanics, the Qufora Bowel Buddies Kidz game helps children connect with their new bowel management routine in a child-centric way. Whether played before, during, or after irrigation, the game supports both the child and their family by reinforcing the importance of regular irrigation in a friendly, non-intimidating manner. It serves as a valuable extension of your clinic’s teaching and helps break down the stigma surrounding bowel issues.

The Qufora Bowel Buddies Kidz mobile game will be available on the Apple and Google Play stores soon!
